Thank you for taking the time to check out my blog. Over the next several months I will be preparing, planning, and shooting a documentary on historic Route 66. My actual trip begins in June. I hope to be back by July to start writing, and editing. I hope this will be an interesting look at what goes into producing a television documentary, and how the documentary is coming along.
A little background about me... I am a broadcast video journalist with over 20 years experience shooting, editing, writing and field producing. I decided to "retire" from local news in 2009 to pursue the next phase of my career. Much of my experience is in local tv news as a Field Producer, and ENG Photographer, but the fundamentals of producing long form stories are the same as producing shorter news packages. You are telling a story, plain and simple. The better you plan the better the final product will be.
I’m owner and principal photographer of Frederick Media, LLC. I have been a video journalist for over 20 years, and have enjoyed telling other peoples story’s around the country. I worked for the NBC station in Philadelphia as a video journalist and field producer for 15 years. I am an EMMY award-winning journalist who has truly seen it all. I have covered inaugurations, political conventions, sporting events, and breaking news. I was in Atlanta Georgia covering the 1996 Olympics when the bomb went off. But the most compelling story I ever worked on was in 2001. Covering the after math of 9/11, I met so many families who shared stories about those who lost their lives that day. It was an honor to be welcomed into their homes and to tell their stories. Through my experience, I have learned that everyone has a story to tell, and every story deserves telling. I hope I have the opportunity to tell yours.
